Mandi, I am definatly trying to get the kids to help out, here is my problem, I dont know if its cuz hes a boy or cuz hes un coordinated or if he just doesnt want to take the time. But my ds has a hard time doing things coorectly, I dont think its just me being picky, Im not too pickey. His chores used to be emptying the trashes in the bathroom every day, making his bead, picking up his room. We have always had them take their dishes to the sink after meals, as soon as they can reach the sink. My ds does ok with making his bed, but he was always sloppy with emptying the trashes, I just delt with it and figured no biggie. Well now we are changing chores a little cuz my dd is able to do that now. And I have noticed that she does a better job at it at 3 then he does at 6 (seven next month). We are working on cleaning the bathroom sinks right now, he is still learning, we have tried vacuuming, he isnt coordinated enough for that, or sweeping, or cleaning toilets.. we dont have a dishwasher so I dont think either of them can wash dishes for a while...

I guess what Im saying is Im having a hard time figureing out what they can help me with (at 7 and 3) because it seems like my older one at least has trouble doing an acceptable job at a lot of things...

It could be because he's a boy or it's just him. Everyone is different. The one thing I learned from a homeschooling mama of many children is the first week do their new chore with them along side them. Then after that, expect them to do it to the best of their ability. One child's ability will always be different than another's. Just hang in there.

Yes they at times will make a HUGE mess and other times they are so clean. It's really dependant on their mood that day, make sense?

We use Aquafresh so it's SO easy for the girls to push the pump and put only a little on their brush. If I give them a tube, oh goodness it'd be a nightmare.

When they do make a huge mess, they are to clean it all up. That enjoyment of making fun of toothbrushing all over the mirror and the sink and all over their faces stopped very quickly after they learned that I wasn't cleaning it up.

I followed my girls around helping with their chores for the first couple weeks. Just so they felt like what they were doing was SOOO important when they finally did it on their own.

I love having our children HELP with the family. Our saying in the home is you are part of this family and you will help maintain the family.

For our family having the kids have responsibilities and a set schedule they show far more respect.
