I love adding chores and losing privileges. When mine fail to do the chores (15 and 13) they get a job I hate (i.e. bathtubs or toilets usually), and that 1 hr a night gets cut to 30 min....when that doesn't work they lose the other 30 min...then the next day etc...
They catch on... Doors only come off hinges when you do something to lose the right to privacy, like hiding things that are known to be wrong. DS lost his door once because he was on restriction because of lying, and he took his gameboy out of DHs dresser and hid it in his pillow to play it at night with his door shut, under the pretense of getting ready for bed....so obviously he didn't need a door to hide behind to allow him to get further into trouble.

I would agree that supplementing undone chores with really unpleasant chores (you didn't sweep the floor, now you get to do that and the toilets need scrubbed) might just get them motivated again.
Clothes on the floor? The only idea I have there is to tell them that if they can't take care of the clothes they have, you won't be supplying them with any new ones.

Sounds like you've worked it out. I really need to be better about keeping on the kids to do their chores.

Thank you everyone!
I sat down with the boys this weekend and explained everything to them. I printed off the "rules" and hung it in the dining room where everyone can see them. I also made a new chore chart to be used if anyone skips a chore, or just plain makes me mad ![]() So far, so good. All chores have been done, clothes have been put away, and none of their crap has been laying around. I'm hoping someone will screw up soon....the upstairs bathroom needs a good scrubbing, and I don't want to do it

Great job mama! The biggest mistake many mama's make is no consequences and then if the child doesn't do the chore, just doing it for the child. You're doing awesome!
